Eduard C. Lindeman
Lindeman, who was directly
influenced by Dewey, is probably the most prominent proponent of progressive
adult education. His book, "The Meaning of Adult Education,"
published in 1926, continues to be a standard resource for articulating
the philosophy of contemporary adult education.
Lindeman believed that the
aim of adult education was to improve the individual and society. Lindeman
posited that Adult Education should engender individual self-improvement
which parallels social changes and brings about changes within the social
order.
