NCHRP 8-55A

Developing a Logical Model for a Geo-spatial Right of Way Land Management System

This web page is for NCHRP 8-55A panel members and other State Transportation Agencies that are interested in providing feedback on the logical model being developed for a geospatially-enabled enterprise-level information management system for Right-of-Way activities.

As of Jan 7, 2009, three files are available for your download and review.

Limited Use Documents

These documents are furnished only for review by members of the NCHRP project panel and are regarded as fully privileged. Dissemination of information included herein must be approved by the NCHRP.

The logical model includes the draft logical model for the overall business of a state transportation Right-of-Way office, explicitly including:

Appraisal, Acquisition, Relocation, and Property Management

Because this is a generalized model, only the activities that are defined by FHWA in the Program Development Guide are modeled in detail.  Activities that are highly dependent on state and local laws and policies are identified, but not defined.  Processes that benefit from geospatial enablement are identified and will be expanded as the model is developed.

This version includes sequence diagrams for the entire model.

            FILES                                                                        Description

Overall_Model.zip       Current version of the logical model developed in Enterprise Architect.

Unzip the file after it is downloaded. This file requires Enterprise Architect to open.  You can download a free version that allows you to view, but not edit, the file from http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/ea.html.Scroll down to the bottom of the page and under Downloads click on the link for EALite.exe. If you are using Explorer, this should open a dialogue box asking if you want to run or save.  Save the file to your hard disk, then double click on the file to install it.  Once it is installed, you can open the eap file and look at the structure and information about each of the entities in the model.

Overall_Doc.pdf           Documentation associated with the current version of the logical model

Overall_Fig.pdf             Document containing only the figures from the documentation

Although these files have been reviewed, they have not been thoroughly checked for consistency and accuracy.  We are continually making changes as we expand them and will be doing a more complete review during this process.
