Andrea K. Wittenborn, Ph. D.
Dr. Andrea Wittenborn is an Assistant Professor in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Virginia Tech. She earned her Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue University. Her program of research is focused on the study of attachment and affect regulation processes in couple and family relationships. Her recent research has examined the occurrence and treatment of depressive symptomatology from an attachment and affect regulation theoretical lens. Dr. Wittenborn is currently investigating the effectiveness of Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples with comorbid depression and relationship distress. Additional ongoing investigations include a longitudinal examination of depressive symptoms and marital quality in a depressed and normative population and the development and evaluation of a Multiple Couple Group Intervention for couples transitioning to marriage.
Dr. Wittenborn regularly presents her research at professional meetings and has published in journals such as Journal of Marital and Family Therapy and American Journal of Family Therapy.
Dr. Wittenborn currently lives in the District of Columbia with her husband, Daniel.
